Heeeeeeell Yeah

I have my tickets for the midnight showing already (JULY 14, mark your calendars!). Basically everyone I work with at camp (I believe) will be there - it's going to be a whole thing. The day before will be "Harry Potter" day at camp, and we're all supposed to come in costume. I'm thinking of trying to be a centaur, but I'm not sure how I'd do it. Being Hermione or Ginny seems so obvious and boring, you know? And I'm not short enough to be a House-Elf (that's what my sister's doing). My work is very important to me, so I'm really going to have to brainstorm this shit.

R Pattz Hair Update

It's been short, it's been long, now it's moppish. This is for his new movie, How To Be, in which I believe his character is the anti-Edward Cullen. He actually filmed it before the phenomenon that is Twilight in jolly old England but it's just getting out now. Trailers:

But enough about that, let's talk about the hair: I'm not big on it. It doesn't do much for me. It does kind of remind me of Eric Matthews from Boy Meets World, but dirtier and less, you know, attractive. It looks like there are mats in it, and perhaps a family of birds or small squirrels. He reminds me of this kid at camp who had a similar mop-top, but blond, and who was in all advanced classes at school but in person was just not quite there, especially in the movie poster. Actually, he looks like someone who Kristen Stewart would really like to date. (Because she likes weed, get it?)

All of the above being said, however, I would still hit it with no questions asked for one reason and one reason only: British. Accent.

If Katie D. Ran The Emmys

Awards season has me all pensive about the important things in my life: my television shows. I decided (and my roommate agrees) that I'm the person who should actually decide what wins what awards, and my qualifications are that I watch TV all the fucking time. Here are my picks for the outstanding TV of 2008!

Update: Posting this shit all at once made the blog go fucking nuts, so I'm gonna split it up. Enjoy the suspense!

Show With Quirkiest, Most Lovable Characters:
Bones

One of my roommates hates this show but I cannot resist! They're funny, they solve crimes, they're very unique characters and Angel from Buffy is in it! Plus it looks at the scientific and the supernatural parts of life, not siding with either, particularly. It's also one of those things where you want the main characters to be together - because they're clearly perfect for each other - but the tension is great so you want it to last forever (like on the Office, how much suckier is that show now that Jim and Pam are together? God, just get married already and get a new gimick.) But anyway, Brennan + Booth = love forever! On weekdays at 5 central on TNT or Thursdays at 7 central on Fox.

Most Fascinating, Disturbing, And Addictive Show On Television:
Law and Order: Special Victims Unit

In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories. DUN DUN. Be impressed: that was all from fucking memory, folks! This show is one (like ANTM, see above) that I can sit and watch for an entire day without accomplishing anything meaningful or important. I never feel more alive! I have no favorite characters when it comes to the main cast: Elliot and Olivia are infallible, Munch is hilarious, Ice T is a quality actor, the Captain is lovable and strangely sexy, Wong and the ME are brilliant. I yell at the screen when someone new comes on (remember that bitch who worked with Elliot when Mariska was pregs? I fucking hated that cunt! And the new DA is too model-y and not sassy enough for me) because I'm offended at the intrusion into my universe! You're not an actor til you've been a crazy and/or beaten person on SVU. Truth. On all the fucking time on USA. Seriously, whenever my Tivo is recording something, it's ALWAYS SVU. New episodes Tuesdays at 9 central on NBC.

Best Fucking Daytime Talk Show Ever:
Ellen

Laugh. Dance. Watch Ellen. There's something so ultimately likable about her that I can't imagine anyone not appreciating her, even if they're not fans of the show. Oprah can go suck Gayle's dick when it comes to daytime TV! Plus, she's a big gay lady, and she stands up for shit she believes in. All while she plays fun games, sings in the bathroom, and makes DanRad speak in an American accent. Who could ask for anything more? Ellen and Dan below. It's on during the day, changes according to where you are.

Obsessive Much? The Ting Tings.

I cannot stop listening the The Ting Tings. Their catchy beats coupled with a slight hint of a British Accent makes them irresistible. When me and my friends are getting ready to go out we just put on “That’s Not My Name” and go to town. It’s kind of like Kate Nash’s voice with a little attitude of Garbage and if the Eurhythmics were happy. So all in all a good mix of the evolution of British pop music. And with lyrics like "Fed up with your indigestion./Swallow words one by one./Your folks got high a quarter to five./Don’t you feel your growing up undone." it actually has some substance to it and interesting phrasing. Coupled with catchy hooks The Tings Tings are a cocktail of hipster fabulosity.

I first heard about them when P!nk (who I'm convinced is a gay lady no matter what anyone says) was doing promo’s on MTV, where music has become a commercial break instead of the whole point of the channel. She fleetingly mentioned the The Ting Tings as what she listens to. So I decided to investigate. I made a good life choice listening to P!nk. Maybe I’ll start fight as well.

Too bad embedding their videos is disabled... so here are some links...

That's Not My Name.

Great DJ.

Shut Up And Let Me Go. <<< The video for this is really freaking cool. It has slow motion martial arts sequences. How can I say no?

Kate Winslet Is Perfect

So I've been seeing a lot of previews for Revolutionary Road, aka Titanic II, and I'm pumped about it, though I probably won't see it in theaters because my friends and I never manage to see anything in theaters. But I will rent the hell out of that movie, because it stars Kate Winslet (not to mention Leo!). The woman is flawless - and she's British! Which makes everyone better. Every time I see that Lancome commercial (below) I idiotically stammer something like, "Wow, oh my God you guys wow, she's such a great actress, wow," even if I'm by myself when I see it. AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN SPEAK. She's THAT impressive. So here it is for you to marvel at and enjoy. Oh, and RR is out Friday, so for the people who do manage to make it to movies occasionally, go see it. It's supposed to be awesome, and really, how could it not be?

Update: I just saw Revolutionary Road, and though the acting was good (obviously) it was, as my friend described it, "the exact opposite of happy." But, it did make me happy as I was leaving, because no matter how upset I may get, hey - at least I'm not a miserable housewife in the 60's. What can I say, it would take an awful lot to make me a pessimist.

LolBush

I love the folks over at The Guardian over in the UK. Why you ask? Because of these beauties:

Misty... I didn't know you had a tattoo back there...

I'm sorry, can we move "approvz" in this picture, there seems to be a design flaw.

Apparently This Is News

Robert Pattinson got a haircut. Whatever, he was probably tired of girls trying to grab it all the time! He's been very vocal about how creepy girls get around him, and how he's not used to it and thinks it's weird. Yeah, I would be too. That said, he's still super hot.

Buffy?

Ok, I'm a bit of a vampire-phile, and obviously that means that I worship Buffy the Vampire Slayer with all my heart and soul. Sadly, the show was killed a few years ago, so I can only meet my fix by borrowing my friend's copies of the seasons and watching them on repeat for hours when I should be having a life. Well, since a Scooby Doo movie isn't coming out anytime soon, Sarah Michelle Geller had to find something to do, so she decided to go on an episode of SVU.

Just kidding, it's her spread for Maxim! So what's up with the fact that she looks like a rape victim who was hit by a chandelier? I'm assuming we're supposed to think she's sexy, because she's not got many clothes on and she's wearing heels and stockings. But she also looks like the victim of a crime. So does crime against women = sexy to Maxim?

Ugh, that's depressing. To lighten you're spirits, here's SMG, as Buffy, with Spike (aka the original hot British vampire).

Obsessive Much? Twilight and R Pattz

Ugh. Be sexier, Robert, honestly. The Hotness and the Glory that is Daniel Radcliffe made me think of my other one and only from across the Atlantic, namely Robert Pattinson. No, this isn't creative, but I never claimed it was. I can only say that my adoration for R Pattz stems from much too much wasted time looking up his interviews on YouTube and many too many hours of watching Twilight on my computer. And yes, I do actually like the movie - in my opinion it's much better than the book, because 1. It gets to the fucking point and doesn't mull over every insignificant detail and 2. I don't hate Bella in the movie. In the book she's a whiney bitch. In the movie she's kinda BA. R Pattz and Kristen Bell seemed like they were trying to make the best movie they could, and I thought it was acted it well. So that's my piece on it. Oh and by the way, I'm not even Team Edward - I was in love (do not judge) with Jacob from the second book til the very end. Maybe because Bella's obsessive love of Edward annoyed me? But Robert won me over, and it's to his credit.

But anyway. Robert is super charming because he is of course British, and so I'm giving you the gift of pictures of him. Oh, and a clip of him and Ellen chatting, because if there's anyone I love more than R Pattz it's Ellen DefuckingGeneres.

Although granted I would like it better if he washed his hair. And holy crap this is serendipity: I'm watching TV and for the first time in weeks I accidentally watched a commercial (thanks Tivo). Well, it happened to be that crappy Hillary Duff commercial for her perfume (who buys that shit?) and it has EMMET from Twilight in it! Mute the clip so your ears don't file a suit against you for reckless endangerment or something and enjoy.

DanRad: Triple Threat

Actor. Singer. Lover. (of horses)
Could I be more in love with Daniel Radcliffe? No, and here's porque:
1. He's British
2. He's Harry Potter
3. This video.
So there's something called the "Gypsy of the Year Competition" that Broadway Cares puts on, and I don't know what it is but I do know that I love it. DanRad wrote/sang/danced to this lovely tune with some cast members from Equus (that horse play where he gets naked on stage), which is called "The Love That Dare Not Speak Its Neigh." If you don't know where this is going, don't worry, because it's not subtle. Daniel is the glowing fairy in the middle. And while Dan and his horsie friend are great, I do love watching the hot slinky stuff happening behind them!

And here's some more of DanRad being cheeky and British. This also shows that Dan is not quite the pocket person he appears to be, because the other guys on stage are wearing what looks to be some sort of wire hanger-platform shoe contraption. Which is comforting, I guess.
