Feminine Friday: Arianna Huffington

So as I get more and more pissed about this whole oil spill deal, I often turn to Keith for comfort - not that he has anything comforting to say, but I like seeing that someone is keeping up a count of how long it's been since the explosion and, I don't know, there's something nice about knowing that Keith is as angry as CK and I are. Anyway, so he has pretty much daily guests on talking about the oil spill from every angle, and one of last night's guests was the Co-Founder and Editor in Chief of the Huffington Post, Arianna Huffington. So not only do I like her because HuffPo publishes some cool shit, but I newly LOVE her because her voice sounds just like the mom from the Aristocats! In other words, she is the epitome of elegance and poise. Please watch and enjoy.

Health Care Reform, Keith Style

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Hey all from London town where I have finally settled for my study abroad. Despite my distance from "The States," I know there's big political shit going down, and even though it's not about gay people I wanted to stay informed because health care affects everybody. With that in mind, I went over to msnbc.com to watch Countdown. Keith Olbermann wasn't in the most recent episode, but they did talk health care, and Dennis Kucinich, Argumentative Guy's favorite person, was a big headline because he finally agreed to vote yes on the health care reform bill (he previously was going to vote no because he didn't think the bill did enough). Anyway, after I watched that I went over to the Special Comment part of the site, where I found the above video clip. It's not particularly easy to watch; in fact, it made me cry. But it's worth seeing. It's a discussion of Olbermann's father and his recent health care struggles, "death panels," and insurance companies. It's from quite a while ago - February 24 - but with the vote so close I thought I'd post it. Also below is the hour-long Special Comment on health care that was replayed in memory of his father, Theodore Olbermann, who passed away on Sunday. I know these videos aren't examples of impartial journalism, but I love Keith's passion and I agree with a lot of what he says.

Also, on a personal note, my Great-Aunt Ruth died about a week ago, while my sister and I were abroad. I hope very much that her end-of-life care was as good as Keith's dad's.

I Find Ray Mabus Strangely Attractive

For those of us who don't know things about high ranking government officials (me included), Ray Mabus is the Secretary of the Navy. Of the U.S. He is also in charge of the Marines and he used to be the Governor of Mississippi, and he was on Jon Stewart yesterday and he was all charming and kind of talked like Clinton, who is one of J Bear's older crushes. And he is HOT. Here he is on The Daily Show:

Pretty fucking charming, right? I like his attitude of like "Oh, the Navy and the Marines will do whatever they're ordered to do. And we'll get it fucking done. Hoo Rah." I think I may gravitate towards him because I like smart men and I don't mind a bit of a drawl. Because I know you're fascinated, here are some other older guys I think are hot but, you know, am weirded out by that fact:

Keith Olbermann

He's a crazy liberal. A little more crazy than I, but much better read. Plus he can do a rant or a speech like the best of 'em, like this one on Proposition 8 (may it be despised forever).

I teared up the first time I saw it, then watched it a dozen more times like the obsessive person I am. Next:

Bill Maher

God, he looks so Jewish. Maybe that's the attraction. He's an even crazier liberal. This guy is so liberal that he hates all packaged food and thinks the things you get in the grocery store are just as bad as McDonalds, plus he's an incredibly vocal Athiest. You gotta love that, right? New Rules below.

Jon Stewart

Oh now this one's too easy but come on, give me a break. Who DOESN'T love him? This is where I get my damn news most of the time. (Hey, Keith is an hour long, I don't have that kind of time. I have old Scrubs episodes to watch. And we don't get HBO.) Here's another clip of him talking about how the fucking Democrats in Congress can't get their shit together and make things happen and are flailing on environmental cleanup, and mocking John Kerry a little bit (NOT HOT):

Then there's the Silver Fox, A Coop, who sadly (for me, but happy for him) is pretty much a big ol' gay. What's with me and the news casters of sorts? Plus there are the typical choices - Denzel, George, both of the Mc-eamy's. What's the obsession? I dunno, but I'm sure this list will be a comfort to whoever I end up marrying because he won't have to worry about going gray. Just losing his hair.

Glee post coming soon, I promise. Love stories take time.

If Katie D. Ran The Emmys: Moar, Moar!

Continued, with extra clips this time! Spaghetti cat cat cat cat cat cat...

Best Fake News Show:
The Soup

Joel McHale seems to have distain for almost all things celebrity or pop-culture related (or at least anything to do with The Hills, La Lohan or Miley Cyrus), but also sort of fascinated with that which he finds disgusting. He also loves Spaghetti cat. All of this makes him highly amusing to me, and The Soup is a great 30 minute way to catch up with what the fuck happened in pop culture this week - that is, if you don't avidly read blogs. A little SC magic for you below.

Oh, and here's a song, written just for SC.

On Fridays at 9 central on E!

Best Actual News Show:
Countdown with Keith Olbermann

Yeah, Keith can be loud, abrasive, and insulting. So can Chatty Kathy. I'm over it! Because underneath their tough exteriors they're both softies. Don't believe me? Check the video (on Prop H8):

Now if you didn't get choked up or at least bust out an "aw" then you are the Tin Man and need to visit the fucking wizard. He's funny, articulate, well-read, clever, and sweet. And friends with Rachel Maddow. And a Unitarian Universalist! Check plus. On weekdays at 7 central on MSNBC.

Best "Reality" Show on VH1 or MTV / Best Use of Hair Products And Body Oil:
Tool Academy

I've stated before that I believe this show is television perfection. Well, we're now down to two tools and they actually don't suck that much (especially Josh, who to me will ALWAYS be Baby Bear), but up until this point we've had it all: douchey attitudes, surprise girlfriends, pigs, lie detectors, tutus, conjugal visits and panic attacks. The boys are definitely not angels but some of the girls are feisty too (and Krista can go to hayle!) so there's never a lack of drama. Trisha (the therapist) is useless and basically just eggs them on, and with each new episode you can see the host losing his will to live. And they're coming back for another season! Bravo, VH1. Bravo. Sundays at 7 central on VH1.

Michael Cera is Actually a Lesbian.

So, it’s finals week and after 4 cups of coffee and not a drop of studying I realized something. Something that only a Big 10 school can teach me, because with this 4 degree (yes, 4 whole degrees!) weather, I have a lot of time on my hands to not study. My revelation? MICHAEL CERA IS ACTUALLY A LESBIAN. Yes. You heard it here. Michael Cera is a lesbian. Welcome to the clan!
Shocked you are? Disgusted you are? Intrigued you are? Want to watch what he does in bed even though you know you a) shouldn’t want to look and b) don’t want to realize that, yes, it’s possible? Well, for you doubters out there, here’s proof.

He wears a lot of plaid, or oddly patterned collared shirts.

He’s best friends with a chubby, curly headed, Jew.

His hobbies include photography. (every lesbian I know has dappled in the world of lenses and light)
He plays guitar. At least 3 chords.

When someone offers to help carry the luggage, he says "No, I got it. I GOT IT."

Delightfully awkward, he’s that baby dyke in high school who is sort of artsy (I hate that word) has a fashion sense that won’t be cool until everyone else in your graduating class is pregnant and you’re living in New York rubbing elbows with the rich (and by rich I mean poor) and pretentious. This sort of reminds me of another lesbian whom I find just as adorable, if not more so...

Plaid.

Fashion sense.

Friends with a Jew.

[Unfortunately, the rumors are true, Olbermann is not Jewish:
CROSS: It‘s Unitarian.
OLBERMANN: Good, I was raised in that faith. So there‘s just a lot of political talk, no actually religion involved. OK, that‘s going to get me in trouble with my ancestors. (Read the whole transcript here.) But for argument's sake, let's just pretend.]

And just because we can: PRECIOUS.
